Week 51: Theatre Donation

Week 51: Theatre Donation

I usually don’t see the point in being “proud” of anything. Making an exception with this though. Bloody thrilled we were able to raise cash in 2014 for the AADAS group. Fundraising for AADAS first started in 2013 with a production in English and Catalan of The Vagina Monologues. Ana Isabella Byrne and Julia Fossi were in that production. They were also in Six In The City 3 (we raised 1200 euros) and Julia was in …

Week 49: Sold Out

Week 49: Sold Out

This week we did 2 nights at Tinta Roja, a gorgeous performance space in the heart of Barcelona. The decorations in the theatre are reminiscent of a somewhat surreal French movie along the lines of Amelie or Delicatessen. So a natural place for “Marie’s Crisis Cafe” and “Desdemona And The 5:2 Diet” – the double-bill that went up over the weekend for the first time. And miracle of miracles…we SOLD OUT! Both nights!! Maximum capacity 90 …

Week 48: Plays open on 5 December

Yesterday, I was nervous about the show. Then the rehearsal went brilliantly. Today I’m looking forward to it.  I wonder what the audience will feel. I expect some of them will tell me.

Week 47: new play continues

Week 47: new play continues

Been working on the new play. No point in discussing it until it’s ready. But I need a photo… So this is next to my desk in my office: a phone box. Made in China. 100% lead-based paint.

Week 46: TV interview

Week 46: TV interview

This is Marcela running a new venture launched by Catalonia Today. It’s English television in Catalonia via El Punt Avui. The show focuses on speaking with/interviewing people who live in Catalonia but come from abroad. They asked if I’d like to do the show in January, thanks to M. Angels who also works at Catalonia Today and has always been a great supporter of our plays. It gives me approximately 6 weeks to become fluent …

Week 45: River Limpopo promoted

Week 45: River Limpopo promoted

This is a picture of The Limpopo River.  It’s got nothing to do with “River Limpopo” a 15-minute play I wrote. But I like the picture. I also really like, love, adore, cheer, that “River Limpopo” is currently being translated from English into Catalan by my friend Alan, and then a Catalan actor and director want to stage it first and shoot it (movie, not death) second (all in Catalan). So we’re going to shoot …

Week 44: Application for drama festival

Week 44: Application for drama festival

Sent application to the UK’s biggest drama festival. Submitting “Marie’s Crisis Cafe”. Maximum length for plays is 55 minutes. Marie is 60 minutes. We have 5 months to up the pace and hit the speed of those movies from the 1940s where everyone talks like they’ve just snorted 10 lines of coke. Sniff.

Week 43: Desdemona

Week 43: Desdemona

Poster / flyer for “Desdemona And The 5:2 Diet” going up directly before “Marie’s Crisis Cafe” on December 5 and 6. This was originally “Des Brogan And The 5:2 Diet“, but Des became Desdemona when Aline said she was interested in playing the Des role. If only transgender operations were always this simple…
